18 going on…

I think one of the hardest transitions in life may be the transition from childhood to adulthood. One day you are 17 and the next, you are 18 and legally an adult. Although mentally you are still a kid. Watching Karissa trying to adjust and seeing her nervousness, I try not to take over and just do things myself. Yesterday she had to sign a medical paper. Today she had to speak to the financial aid person at the community college. I could see that she so wanted to give me back the phone, but she is 18 and the […]

Birth Story… Karissa

Since it’s almost her 18th birthday, I should type up Karissa’s birth story. She was an easy pregnancy. All the excitement happened after her birth. Hmmm, where do I start? Karissa Charlene was born on a Wednesday. I remembered this because I was watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Tuesday night and thanking her for allowing me to watch it before I gave birth. Her middle name is after Kevin’s mom. I had no clue if she was going to be a girl or boy since the Army hospital had a policy on not revealing the baby’s sex. Some story […]

Birth Story… Alexis

Alexis has an interesting school assignment. She needs to write the story of her birth.. but in first person, in her point of view. So I had to tell her the story of her birth. Then I thought I’d share it here. Now I need to write Karissa’s birth story. This was the email I sent Alexis since I thought it would be easier to write: Once upon a time, there was a little redhead. No, really… I was pregnant with you for 8 months. Your dad was in Iraq, so your sister and I moved to California from Oklahoma […]

Books and stuff…

I have four books on hold right now: The Alice Network, The Great Alone. The Women in the Castle, and Ready Player One. Since I have to wait for those, I chose to read The Paris Key since I could read it now. Oh, I borrow books from the library… check them out, they go straight to my Kindle and I can start reading immediately… once they have the book available. I think that is the coolest thing ever. This did not even exist when I was a kid. Although I do still like the feel of reading a physical […]

Where do I start in my writing…

With therapy, I’m to talk about much of my past, or traumas, or whatever anyone likes to call it. Journaling is supposed to be a way to get things out. The problem is that I don’t like to talk about things and would rather keep all that stuff in the dark, dusty part of my brain. Apparently, that is bad for you. Although I never know how to begin to talk about things. How does one start talking? I have watched many extroverts in how they begin their conversations. As it is very natural to them, for when I try […]

Down memory lane…

I have a hard time remembering things. This is a bit different and it’s frustrating. I can remember many things from years ago. My short-term memory seems to have gotten worse. What’s crazy is that I used to have a photographic memory. I was able to picture things in my head. Now? Not so much. I can see hazy things, colors, sometimes it would just be black. I know what something would look like, say my car or one of my cats. Though I can’t picture them in my head. When someone says to imagine a beach, there is nothing […]
