The pain in my right ear is finally starting to ease up. The doctor prescribed antibiotics for the infection, but now, of course, they’ve upset my stomach. I take probiotics every day, so I’m hoping that helps balance things out. Normally, I do intermittent fasting, but for now I’m taking the antibiotics with food.
My morning got off to a later start—I didn’t begin coding until 9 a.m. I also had to wake up the girls, mostly Karissa, since she’s the one who feeds the animals. The cats practically surround me until I wake up the person they know will feed them. Alexis is usually already up by then.
Oh! My UPS is finally working again, and I’m back on my desktop. I guess the battery charged up while it was sitting there. I’m just glad to have my computer back—it feels weird trying to get stuff done without it.
I have a 10% off coupon for Pen Boutique, but honestly, I don’t have the money to spend right now. They sell fountain pens (really nice ones) and a small amount of stationery. Does anyone want a fountain pen? Because if so, I’ve got the coupon for you.
It hit lunchtime, and I was starving. I ended up throwing some leftover pulled pork on bread and calling it a sandwich. Easy, quick, and it did the job. Then I went right back to coding.
The ridiculous part of my day? I have pens everywhere—fountain pens, gel pens, you name it—but zero paper at my desk. Not even a Post-it note. So here I am, scribbling notes on the back of an envelope like some 19th-century accountant. How do I own this much stationery but still have nothing to write on? That takes talent.
Meanwhile, I’ve got a pile of random trip souvenirs—receipts, tickets, scraps—that I want to stick into my Traveler’s Notebook. I even have an insert ready (well, “ready” as in somewhere in the mountain of stuff next to my desk). I want to print out a few photos and make it all cute, but step one is actually finding the notebook insert… and maybe clearing enough desk space to use it.
I also have postcards that I need to put away. At this point, I’ve collected so many that they’re just sitting in a plastic box in my closet. I’d really like to find a way to display them instead of keeping them hidden. Maybe a binder or album would work—or something a little more creative. I might have to Google, “how to display postcards” and see what ideas pop up. Or go on Pinterest. Pinterest usually has some good ideas.
I’ve been collecting postcards for as long as I can remember. As a kid, every trip meant picking up a few. When I lived in Germany, my collection really grew—I gathered so many. Even now, I still can’t resist collecting them, which means I’ve ended up with quite a lot to go through. I’d like to get them out of the box and into an album.
As for the weekend, it was pretty uneventful. Friday, I went to the doctor, and she put me on antibiotics for my ear. Later, we stopped by the Costco Hearing Aid Center, and they replaced the receivers in my hearing aids. Now both work again, and it feels so much better actually being able to hear conversations. Though I’ll admit, sometimes it’s kind of nice being able to just turn them off when things get too loud.
Saturday was a lazy day with Tommy—we mostly just watched TV and played on our computers. Sunday wasn’t much different. Tommy’s allergies were acting up, so he slept through most of the morning. That night, he had his hockey game, which probably wasn’t the best idea because he didn’t feel great afterward.
I always come back here to my journal when I get stumped in my coding. It’s the wording of the problem! It’s always the wording. Once I figure out what they are asking, it’s pretty easy.
Oh, my tummy is upset from these antibiotics. I think I will make myself some tea. Maybe that will help my stomach.
The tea helped a little. It’s 5pm now, and I’ve wrapped up coding for the day. I had fun, even though my stomach wasn’t too happy. I still have a small load of laundry to put away—nothing major. I’ll be doing laundry again tomorrow, so another small load will be waiting for me then. I actually did this load on Saturday; I just haven’t gotten around to putting it away yet. I guess it’s finally time to tackle that.
