I finished Made in Manhattan last night. It was a quick, light read—cute and charming. The story felt like a reverse My Fair Lady or Pygmalion, with the woman taking on the challenge of transforming a man to fit into her upper-crust New York world. An interesting twist on a familiar theme.
Kel went in with Tommy to work today. She’s taking the car in for new tires and a service. Later, Tommy has a doctor’s appointment—he thinks he might have a sinus or ear infection. That doesn’t sound good, and honestly, he probably should have stayed home.
I’m having a hard time focusing on coding today. The coding itself isn’t the issue—it’s my concentration. The news has been all over Facebook, so I’ve been avoiding social media. The world feels especially heavy right now, more so than usual. On top of that, Kel’s dad hasn’t answered his phone, so we sent Alex to check on him, which has been weighing on my mind. Alex also offered to grab lunch for the girls. They Zelled him the money, though I’m not sure if he scored himself a free lunch out of it. Either way, it was thoughtful of him to offer.
I borrowed Wordslut from the library after starting it earlier this year, but I never finished the book. While I don’t consider myself a feminist, I find it a fascinating dive into the power of language—especially how words shape the way we think about gender. The book blends linguistics, feminism, and a call to rethink how we use (and judge) language.
I’m charging up my Kindle again. Unfortunately, my cover broke. It was old and already falling apart, so it wasn’t a surprise. I’d like to get a new one, but the shop I want to order from has suspended shipping to the U.S. because of tariffs. So, until they start shipping here again, I’ll have to wait. Kel asked me yesterday why my Kindle didn’t have a cover. I had brought it along to read while Lexi was at her appointment. I’m being extra careful with my Kindle since it doesn’t have a cover.
We just got word that Kel’s dad is okay—he was only sound asleep. I’m relieved he’s doing well. Kel had been worried since she hadn’t heard from him in three hours. She thought he might have run into trouble while swapping out his ceiling fan for a regular light. Perhaps Alex can give him a hand.
I was about to make myself some matcha tea—I don’t really need another cup of coffee, and I’m trying to save my last few sodas. But Alex just called and said he’s bringing me a Cherry Coke Zero, so I’ll hold off on the matcha and wait for my soda when he gets home.
In my travel journal, which I want to focus on my past trip, I’d like to use stamps. I know I have some, but I’m not sure where they are—either in the piles under my desk or on the table. Should I take the time to organize the piles and look for them, or just use whatever I can easily find for my journal? I enjoy organizing, but it might frustrate me since I don’t have a proper place to put everything yet, and it will likely just end up back in a pile.
Okay, back to coding. After that, maybe I’ll tackle the pile next to me under my desk.
