Today has felt so long, and it’s not even over yet! Though honestly, it wasn’t a bad day. Karissa finally had her long-awaited cardiology appointment, and I’m just relieved it didn’t get cancelled. Kel had an orientation today, so Alex took Karissa and me to the appointment. We hadn’t been to this clinic before, and it was a bit confusing to find, but we managed. It’s part of the hospital, just down the road from it.
When I got home, I was so tired that I fell asleep right away. The appointment itself went well. Karissa needs to do bloodwork tomorrow when I take Alexis in for hers, and she also has an echocardiogram scheduled soon. Later this month, she’ll have to wear a heart monitor for a few weeks, just routine follow-up tests to see how she’s doing. The cardiologist said her heart sounds good and that he doesn’t expect any surprises.
After the appointment, Alex and Karissa tried a Hawaiian BBQ place. Karissa rated it a 9 out of 10 but said the service was slow; they waited almost an hour for their food. From there, we stopped at Costco for gas and then went to Walmart to pick up medication and grab dinner ingredients. We’re having spaghetti tonight. We got the mail and finally made it home around two.
Ok, I made the sauce and it’s simmering now. I feel a bit rushed today, especially since I ended up falling asleep when I got home. It was only an hour nap, but it threw me off. I woke up feeling overwhelmed, like I wasn’t getting anything done.
At the appointment, I had to go over Karissa’s heart history with her cardiologist. That’s pretty much why I went along; I knew Karissa might stumble over her words when trying to explain everything herself. Her story is pretty straightforward. She had open-heart surgery at three months old because she wasn’t thriving. She had only gained a pound since birth, and her heart was working too hard. The surgery took nine and a half hours, but thankfully, there were no complications, and she’s been doing great ever since. I still had to go over all the technical details, even though they already have it on record. I almost felt like I was being quizzed. Lol!
It really was quite a journey, and I’m just so grateful she’s doing well. The doctor did mention she should get a bit more exercise to keep her heart healthy. Maybe take a walk or do something active for about half an hour each day. She agreed, though she admitted she sometimes feels lazy. The doctor said the hardest part is just getting started, and I think that’s true for most of us.
It’s been raining off and on all day, and I love it. It makes everything feel so cozy. I’m going to make myself a cup of hot tea and watch some YouTube for a bit. Maybe I’ll make Tommy’s lunch for tomorrow while I’m at it.
