Finally Friday

I’ve been waiting for this moment all week. There’s just something about Fridays – the little boost of energy, the quiet promise of rest, and that feeling of being able to sleep in. It feels good to reach the end of the week and take a breath. Now I can settle in, finish up what I need to do, and relax later. Here’s to the start of a restful weekend.

I put down The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue four years ago because it’s redundant. The concept is interesting, but the story spends too long emphasizing Addie’s deal with the devil and her curse: everyone instantly forgets her. This detail recurs for several chapters, making the early narrative slow and causing me to lose interest.

The thing is, anyone who meets Addie instantly “forgets” her the moment she slips out of their line of sight. It’s a fascinating curse, but the way it plays out in the book feels drawn out – chapter after chapter of people meeting her, forgetting her, and her starting over again and again. I understand it’s meant to convey the weight of her isolation, but after a while, it starts to feel repetitive, almost as if the story is stuck in a loop.

I truly appreciate the idea behind the story, and the writing itself is captivating. I just keep finding it a bit repetitive at times. Still, I’m determined to finish it this time! I just want to know its ending. There is one character who actually remembers her, so I’m hoping that’s where things start to get interesting.

I swear, I have absolutely nothing interesting to report today. My focus is behaving for once – miracles do happen – but “I’m studying” isn’t exactly the kind of thing that makes people lean in and say, “Tell me more!” It’s one of those days where life is perfectly fine, just wildly uncinematic. If my day were a movie, it would be titled Productive, But Honestly Kind of Boring.

In the spirit of trying to come up with something – anything – interesting to talk about, I remembered this bizarre beauty moment from earlier this year. There was a makeup trend called the Yarn Makeup trend, where girls would literally glue pieces of yarn onto their faces and then apply makeup over it. Yes, it sounds weird because it was weird. But honestly? The pictures were strangely fascinating, like someone mashed together a craft store and a beauty tutorial and just said, “Let’s see what happens.” It was odd, chaotic, and kind of mesmerizing.

I’d like to get a haircut, but the question is when? Every weekend seems to be packed, so it’s hard to find time for an appointment. This weekend, we’re visiting a friend’s house and planning a trip. Sunday is uncertain, and most salons aren’t open then anyway. My hair is down to my waist and definitely needs a cut – mostly to get rid of all the damaged, bleached ends.

Time for some hot tea. I want to wrap up my studying for the day, and then I’m not entirely sure what comes next. Maybe I’ll get a head start on dinner by prepping the carrots. We’re having air-fryer chicken thighs, scalloped potatoes, and roasted carrots tonight – cozy and simple. If I get the chopping and prep out of the way now, it’ll make everything feel a lot easier later. It’s one of those small things that future-me will definitely appreciate.
