Happy New Year! I’m stepping into this new year with a fresh start, literally. In about nine days, I’m getting a new haircut and saying goodbye to all of my bleached hair. I’ll be going short, which feels a little bold but also really freeing. It’s a chance to focus on my hair’s health and give it the opportunity to grow back stronger and healthier, without all the damage. I’m glad it isn’t too cold outside, because my neck is going to be cold without all that hair to keep it warm.
Additionally, I want to be more intentional about exercising and moving my body more regularly. Not in a strict or punishing way, but as another way to take care of myself and feel better overall. None of this feels like a New Year’s resolution, with all the pressure that usually comes with that. It’s more of a quiet intention, a decision to be a little kinder to my body and to invest in my own well-being as the year unfolds.
Today is a mix of studying and catching up on laundry. I’m also washing Tommy’s hockey unders so they’re clean and ready for his game this Sunday. He’s been incredibly busy at work lately, and with a deadline coming up, he’s even working through the weekend.
On Sunday, Kel, our friends, and I are going to see
On New Year’s Eve, I went over to our friend’s house for the day. We started watching The Hobbit, though we didn’t end up finishing it. After that, we played a board game and had McDonald’s for lunch before heading out to pick up Kel from work. Once we got back, we started cooking and getting everything ready for the evening. Tommy got off work around 4:30, and another couple stopped by for a few hours. We played more board games and then sat down for dinner together.
By around 11, I was really struggling to stay awake until midnight, but I managed to make it. We rang in the New Year together and stayed the night. The next morning, we had waffles and bacon for breakfast, and watched the Tournament of Roses Parade.
We spent New Year’s Day playing Tommy’s new board game, The Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship. It took a few hours to play, and we didn’t win this time, but maybe next time, and it was a lot of fun. The game loosely follows the story, which made it even more enjoyable. We also played another game called Canvas, where you layer picture cards onto a background to create a “painting.” It was calm, creative, and a nice contrast to the longer game.
We got home around 6:30, had a quick dinner, watched a bit of TV, and then headed to bed.
Laundry is done, folded, and finally put away, and it feels really good to have that checked off the list. Tommy and Kel will be home soon, so I’m going to wrap this up and post it. Oh, I also cleaned up my desk a little.
