Simply Tuesday

I tried timeblocking with my studying. Tried being the keyword here.

In reality? It failed spectacularly.

Traditional timeblocking assumes your executive functioning is a consistent, reliable resource—something you can summon on command, like, “Ah, yes, it is now 2:00 PM. Time to focus.” But my ADHD brain did not receive that memo; instead, my brain runs on vibes. And maybe a little chaos.

I also appear to have time blindness. I will look at the clock, nod knowingly, and then, somehow, it’s lunchtime. How did we get here? Who moved the hands on the clock? Why is my stomach suddenly demanding answers? Lunch sneaks up on me constantly, like it’s playing a very successful game of hide-and-seek.

So the calendar blocks sat there. Mocking me. “You were supposed to be studying right now,” they whispered, while I was three tabs deep into something completely unrelated and somehow also reorganizing my desk.

And now I’m left wondering: if time blocking doesn’t work, what does? Is there an alternative between “rigid schedule that assumes I’m a robot” and “vague intention to study at some point today”? Surely there’s something in between that doesn’t require me to know what time it is at all times.

For now, I remain unscheduled, mildly confused, and cautiously optimistic. But that colour-coded calendar? She was cute. She just wasn’t built for me.

I think I’m just going to use the Pomodoro method today and see how that goes. Not in a “stare anxiously at the clock every three minutes” way, but in a “there is a container for this effort” kind of way. A set amount of time to study, and then a guaranteed break at the end of it.

Not much is going on today, which isn’t a bad thing. I studied, took breaks when I needed them, and, miracle of miracles, I even put clothes away. Everest is here today, and she and Merlin are outside playing like it’s their full-time job. It’s warm out, which makes the day feel lighter somehow. I’m glad it’s warming up a little.

Our hallway floor, however, is having… issues. It’s collected water from the melting snow, and it’s definitely coming from the floor, not the ceiling, not the bathroom. Just the floor. Which is extremely weird. For now, it seems stable, but if it gets worse, we’ll need to notify the landlord.

Kel bought these absorbent pads meant to soak up water, and she had Alex put them down. Alexis came in, took one look, and announced that the floor is on its period. And honestly? She’s not wrong. That is exactly what it looks like. I guess we’ll see if the pads actually work.

My back still hurts, specifically my shoulder blade. I know it’s a muscle thing from bench presses. I did work out last night, and I took it easy, but somehow the exercises that required no weight at all hurt the most. Which feels rude. I wonder if we are working out tonight. I suspect it’s leg day. Because of course it would be.

We need a new bag for the shop vac. Alex forgot to mention one tiny, crucial detail: “Do not let the dogs outside.” Naturally, I let the dogs outside, because why wouldn’t I? I checked on them just now and discovered they had absolutely obliterated the shop vac bag. Not chewed. Not nibbled. Ripped through it like it personally offended them.

To be fair, Alex left the shop vac open outside with the bag just… sitting there. Fully exposed. Basically, a crime scene waiting to happen. The dogs saw it and said, “Ah, yes, enrichment.” So now the shop vac needs a new bag, the dogs are very proud of themselves, and I have learned once again that anything left unattended outside instantly becomes a chew toy if it so much as suggests it might be important.

I’m not entirely sure what’s for dinner tonight. I’m guessing I’ll find out when Tommy and Kel get home from work, dinner, like many things in life, remains a mystery until further notice. My current working theory is tacos, simply because it’s Taco Tuesday and the universe tends to respect that tradition. For now, I’m going to make some tea and lean into doing absolutely nothing productive. Maybe I’ll read a bit.
