I can’t believe I’m heading to California in just two days, and my anxiety is already heightened. I know I can handle this. Today, I’ll be bringing out the suitcases to distribute among the girls and myself to start packing. Should I pack for Tommy as well? There’s so much laundry to get done today, and I have clothes to put away, all of which need to be cleaned for packing. Note to self: don’t forget the pajamas, as I tend to overlook them. I’m also charging my laptop and Kindle; I’m not quite sure why I’m bringing my laptop, but hopefully, it will be useful. I mentioned to the girls that their grandma doesn’t have internet since she got rid of it after my dad passed away, and she doesn’t use a cell phone—just a landline. So, unfortunately, texting her, which would make me much happier, isn’t an option. I’ll have to call her to let her know we’re on our way once we arrive in L.A.
I intended to write on Friday but didn’t find the time. Last Friday, the girls and I went to Uptown in the city. Kel dropped us off before heading to do grocery shopping with Chris. First, I was treated to sushi, which was quite good. Then we stopped by Starbucks because Lexi wanted a coffee. After that, we headed to Target, where we spent the next couple of hours shopping. The girls were busy shopping while I enjoyed their company and pushed the cart. It was a lot of fun. Since Kel was still shopping with Chris, the girls and I waited for her at the Starbucks inside Target.
Kel decided to pick us up, and she and Chris took us to PetSmart. Afterward, we headed over to Chris’s dorm, where the girls assisted him in bringing his groceries to his new room. Since Chris had just moved into a different dorm, he initially went to the wrong room. We noticed him and the girls walking in the opposite direction after a bit, but eventually, he found his way. Haha! Once the girls helped him settle in, Kel and I headed home, arriving ten minutes before Tommy.
On Saturday, we didn’t do much since Tommy was dealing with sinus issues, so we opted to stay in. We had pizza for dinner that night. On Sunday, Tommy, Kel, Karissa, Chris, and I went to Banana Ball Baseball, which is a fun twist on the traditional game with different rules. It was a little challenging to grasp the new rules at first, but it felt like a big baseball party. We all had a great time, especially Karissa, who enjoyed herself.
Monday was Memorial Day, and Tommy had a concert. I attended the Memorial Day ceremony while he performed. Unfortunately, something went wrong with his saxophone during his set, and he was unable to continue playing. He remained on stage since it would have looked odd for him to leave, but he couldn’t play any further. We need to get his saxophone repaired soon.
After the ceremony, we enjoyed lunch and made a quick stop at Smith’s before heading home. Once we got home, Tommy took a nap while I spent some time on my computer. Kel prepared dinner, which was good.
Now, as I sit here today, I’m trying to focus on coding, but I feel a bit anxious and restless. I need to implement my version of the .map() method on Array.prototype, called myMap. It sounds just as confusing as that sentence was to write. It is challenging for me to concentrate today.
It’s later in the day. I’ve been reading up on this function and I came up with a few things.
What .map() does:
- Iterates over an array.
- Applies a callback function to each element.
- Returns a new array with the results.
- Does not mutate the original array.
Key things to replicate in myMap:
- Loop through the array (this will refer to the array it’s called on).
- Apply a callback to each element.
- Push the result to a new array.
- Return the new array.
I need to put my clothes away and begin packing. Alexis has already started, and Karissa is in the process of packing now. She seems quite anxious about the flight, while Tommy mentioned he’s actually more worried about the drive to the airport! That’s funny and somewhat true—flying is generally safer. Right now, I’m also bothering Sandy, who climbed onto my desk and is sitting right in front of my keyboard, making it difficult to type.
