I started my morning realizing my headphones were at 20%, despite charging all night. I swapped the cable and set them to charge in the dining room, hoping they’ll be fine. Meanwhile, I put in my hearing aids and kept my speakers low since the kids are still sleeping—though they probably can’t hear my computer anyway.
When I checked my hub, I noticed it wasn’t plugged in. I plugged it back in and everything works now. Funny that I didn’t even think to check the connection! I’m just waiting for my headphones to charge, which should take half an hour.
I called the doctor’s office to let them know that Tricore never received the lab order they sent. They said they’ll resend it. This time, I think I’ll call Tricore first to confirm they have the order before going in. The only issue is that no one ever seems to be at the front desk at our Tricore center, so calling might not help much.
I have my computer set so that pressing the power button doesn’t immediately turn it off. But if you hold it down long enough, it shuts off by default—and that’s exactly what Sandy did. She was sitting on my computer tower and held the button long enough to power it down. I didn’t even realize she was up there! Luckily, it didn’t take too long to get my computer back on. It took a few tries, but eventually it started up again.
There’s a shift in the air lately—it finally feels like fall. The mornings are crisp, and I find myself reaching for a sweater as soon as I wake up. This week, the highs are in the 70s, and by the weekend, they’ll dip into the 60s—perfect timing, since summer just ended yesterday. We still need the swamp cooler during the day, but in a few weeks, I’m sure we won’t anymore.
Did I ever mention that I’m lactose intolerant? I really should be more careful about checking the dairy content in what I eat. Last night, Alex and Kel made rice pudding, and Alex had me try some this morning. Now my stomach feels heavy and a little crampy, and I can’t help but wonder how much dairy they used. There’s a Filipino rice pudding called Biko that’s made with coconut milk and sticky rice—it’s so much easier on the stomach. I should make that sometime.
This weekend, we mostly stayed home. On Saturday, we did weights, worked on the desk for a bit, and I baked bread. The recipe called for 300 grams of starter, but I only had 260. I went ahead with it anyway, and while the bread didn’t rise as much as I’d hoped and turned out a little dense, it still tasted good. Not bad at all. Hopefully, my next loaf will come out better—I’ll definitely have enough starter for it next time.
On Sunday, we watched football, and Tommy had his hockey game. I got my workout in that morning since Tommy would be getting his exercise on the ice.
There’s this drink powder called Zipfizz that you mix into a water bottle. Tommy drinks it at work for an energy boost, so I thought I’d give it a try. It took me forever to get the powder in because it kept fizzing up! I ended up having to drink some of the water just to make room for it. The taste is okay—kind of sour, like a candy sour, if that makes sense.
I’m halfway through the book Wordslut. While some of the repetitiveness can be a bit grating, I do enjoy it overall. I’d describe Wordslut as a thought-provoking entry point into feminist sociolinguistics—engaging as an introduction, but not comprehensive, or conclusive. I’ll finish the book because I do find it interesting, though I don’t think it will change my overall impression.
