Today is Tommy’s birthday. 🙂
My morning started off well. I got ready for the day, filled the pill boxes, and put away some clothes, though I still have a few remaining to sort out later. As I sat down to do some coding, however, my focus waned, and I felt somewhat lost. I’m not entirely sure why this is happening. The memoize function continues to confuse me, so I’m revisiting my JavaScript skills through FreeCodeCamp, but I still feel disoriented, like I lack a clear structure.
It’s lunchtime now, but I’m not feeling hungry. Earlier, I had a coffee and some toast. Alex suggested I make toast because he had something for me to try. After preparing the toast, he asked me to spread cream cheese on it, but I noticed he had a jar of pickles nearby and mentioned that I didn’t want pickles at the moment. Not wanting to waste the bread, I decided to put some butter and jam on it instead. That was about an hour and a half ago, and I’m still not hungry for lunch. Perhaps I’ll eat later and whip up some eggs or something.
Last weekend was quite enjoyable. I can’t quite recall Friday at first, but let me think. Tommy had a therapy appointment that morning. I’ll come back to Friday in a moment. On Saturday, I had an early appointment at Costco to get my hearing aid cleaned, as it had accumulated some dirt. They provided me with a brush to help clear off any debris from the receiver if necessary. Oh! Tommy just reminded me of our Friday activities. We spent the day cleaning the garage and tidying up the front yard. Normally, I keep a record of my activities in my Hobonichi Weeks planner, but I hadn’t noted anything down from this past weekend.
Continuing on Saturday, after our trip to Costco, Tommy and I headed to the movie theater. Our first film was “Phoenician Scheme.” The movie is somewhat challenging to understand, but I appreciated its unique storytelling approach. The protagonist, Korda, is a businessman skilled at gathering funds from various parties. However, the government seeks to assassinate him due to his immense wealth and power. In the beginning, Korda approaches his daughter, expressing his desire for her to inherit his business. Yet, she aspires to become a nun and is uncertain about this path.
The film explores Korda’s journey to reconcile with those he has wronged, while also serving as a means for his daughter to comprehend the complex world that shaped her father. As she navigates through his business affairs, she gradually begins to experience the allure of his lifestyle, contrasting it with her initial goal of leading a life devoted to the convent. Ultimately, Korda loses all his wealth, but he gains a deeper connection with his daughter. She loses her faith as the convent throws her out, but in the process, she finds her father, and they both come to realize that their relationship is ultimately what they truly need.
The second movie is an anime titled “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye.” It covers the events of the first three episodes of the upcoming season—possibly even four episodes in total. The cliffhanger was quite compelling, and we can expect to see what happens next around August during our trip. Tommy and I will have some episodes to look forward to when we return home.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, which picks up from the first season. It features a demonic entity known as the Evil Eye, along with a massive Dune-like earthworm that has been revered and fed by cultists for hundreds of years. The “Evil Eye” is a vengeful spirit born from a child sacrifice ritual. Initially, a young boy was offered to a creature called the Tsuchinoko (a giant Dune-like earthworm) to avert volcanic eruptions. Consumed by hatred and driven by a desire for revenge due to his tragic life and the deaths of other children he witnessed, the boy transforms into the Evil Eye, a powerful force that curses others into committing suicide.
On Sunday, Tommy’s parents came over for a visit, and it was quite pleasant. They arrived in the morning, and Tommy prepared breakfast for everyone. We spent some time chatting outside until it became too hot, at which point we moved indoors. Later in the day, we enjoyed dinner together. Tommy had smoked a chuck roast, which turned out to be delicious. Afterward, we celebrated his birthday with cake and ice cream.
For my lunch, Kel shared one of her burrito bowls with me. It was decent; I added some salsa to enhance the flavor.
Wow, it’s already 3 o’clock. I’ve been coding all day, with a few distractions along the way. Oh, my uncle called yesterday as well, and we chatted for a few minutes. He asked about my recent trip to California and mentioned he tried to reach my mom but only got the answering machine. I wish she would engage more with family. They often try to call her, but she doesn’t always pick up. I’m not sure if she speaks to anyone regularly; it would be beneficial for her to connect with family more.
Well, I’m going to make myself some tea, do a bit more coding, and then I’ll put away some clothes before Tommy returns home from work.
