Everyone in the house seems to be catching something. It started with Karissa, then Alex, followed by Alexis and Kel. Last night, it sounded like Tommy might be getting sick too, but this morning he seemed a bit better. I hope he doesn’t catch it. Karissa and Alexis are both feeling better now, and it seems like Kel is on the mend, too. I’m not sure about Alex yet – he sounded pretty rough yesterday.
It’s been a long weekend for me. Tommy was home Thursday and Friday since he had a medical procedure on Friday. He’s doing well now. We spent Thursday resting on the couch and didn’t do much. That evening, Alex and I went to pick up dinner from the store, and since Karissa and Alexis weren’t feeling well, I made them soup and sandwiches.
On Friday morning, we took Tommy to the clinic. Kel and I stayed in the car and napped while we waited. Afterward, we went out for breakfast – I had blueberry pancakes – and then headed home. Tommy went straight to bed to sleep off the anesthesia. He actually fell asleep while I was filling the pill boxes.
The rest of Friday was quiet. We played on our computers and had pizza for dinner since no one felt like cooking. On Saturday, we went to the store early to grab a few things for dinner and ended up having steak and baked potatoes. Most of the day was spent resting on the couch again.
Sunday, we took Alexis to the Costco Hearing Aid Center for a hearing test and to look into new hearing aids. She ended up getting a new pair that she really liked. She also learned her debit card limit the hard way while paying for them, but Tommy covered the rest. She’s very happy with them.
I also finally finished Great Big Beautiful Life. It was marketed as a romance, but it read more like women’s fiction with a touch of mystery. The romance was there, but felt secondary and a bit confusing. Still, I enjoyed it overall. The writing was good, though you can tell the author releases a book every year – the pacing and structure felt uneven at times. The dual timelines (Margaret’s story and Alice and Hayden’s present) sometimes made the flow a little jerky, and the premise of two writers competing for an heiress’s trust felt a bit contrived. That said, Great Big Beautiful Life is a thoughtful story about reflection and legacy. It’s a good fit if you’re looking for something more introspective than a traditional rom-com.
I’m not sure what my next book will be. I still haven’t finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, so I put a hold on it at the library. I’d really like to finish it. I just wonder if I’ll be able to pick up where I left off or if I’ll need to start over.
Tommy and Kel have headed off to work, and everyone else is still asleep. I’ll probably wake Karissa in about half an hour so she can feed the animals – I’m sure they’re getting hungry.
It’s tough when I smell breakfast cooking because I’m starving, but I’m trying to hold out until lunchtime.
Oh! A book just came through – The Truths We Hold. I’m not political and don’t belong to any party, but I do enjoy a good biography, so I thought this one might be interesting. I’ve always been curious about how government works, even though the combative side of politics makes me uneasy. I don’t think this book will get too deep into that part, which is nice. This book may be a bit out of my comfort zone, so we will see how this goes.
Alex is up and sounding more like himself today. I’m so glad he’s feeling better — especially since he’s driving me to my doctor’s appointment tomorrow morning. It would’ve been rough if he were still sick.
Tommy asked me to make a cardiologist appointment since it’s been a while, so I called the office I usually go to. It was the most awkward call ever. I’m already awkward by nature, but this just took it to another level. Apparently, I haven’t seen my cardiologist since 2022 — I’m supposed to go yearly! They’re going to talk to the doctor first to see if he wants any tests done before calling me back to schedule an appointment. I can’t believe it’s been three years!
I did some coding this morning, and now I want to study a bit of cybersecurity. That’s such a long word to type – maybe I’ll start calling it cybersec or infosec. Hmm, I’ll think about it.
I put away the laundry, finished up studying for the day, and enjoyed some hot tea. I have a doctor’s appointment early tomorrow, so I should be back home before noon. I think I know what’s for dinner tonight, but I’m not completely sure. Maybe I’ll make some mashed potatoes. I’ll ask around about dinner and see if I can get anything started. Oh, I looked at the package of turkey breast. It was placed in the freezer, so it would take a while for it to thaw. There is a frozen cooking method, but that would still take a while. I should have looked at it this morning. Maybe we can have that tomorrow.
