Slow day

Focusing isn’t my forte today. I don’t know why, but I’m struggling to sit still and read my cybersecurity book. My mind keeps drifting; the more I force myself to concentrate, the harder it gets.

Alexis had her doctor’s appointment this morning. Thankfully, there are no ear infections, which is a relief. The doctor recommended allergy medication and a nasal spray to help alleviate the pressure in her ears, so we’ll see if that brings her some comfort.

Additionally, my wrist is hurting today. I think I must have strained it while exercising, so I’m wearing a wrist brace to give it some support. Typing and writing are a bit uncomfortable, which definitely isn’t helping my focus or motivation. I’m trying to take it easy and listen to my body, even if that means moving a little slower than I’d like today.

I’d still like to get some exercise in tonight, even if I have to be a bit careful. I’m planning to wear this wrist brace while I work out and just listen to my body as I go.

Typing and writing have both been a little frustrating today. When I type, the wrist brace keeps bumping other keys, and suddenly everything goes haywire. Windows popping up, programs opening, and I have to stop just to close them all out. Writing by hand isn’t much better. That actually hurts my wrist more than typing does, even though typing isn’t exactly comfortable either.

I did manage to read a few chapters of my cybersecurity book, which feels like a small win since I’m still having trouble focusing. Now I just need to go back and write down some notes, though I may have to pace myself or find a way to do it that doesn’t aggravate my wrist too much.

I also have an appointment tomorrow at the Costco Hearing Aid Center. My right hearing aid has been acting staticky, and it makes it really hard to hear clearly. Since Kel is home sick today, she won’t be going into work tomorrow anyway, apparently Wednesdays are considered extra-hours days there, so she’ll be home and able to take me to Costco.

I have a hair appointment on Saturday, and I’m excited about it. I can’t wait to finally get these bleached ends cut off; it feels like a fresh start for my hair. I also have a bond repair leave-in conditioner that I’m planning to try, and I’m hopeful it’ll help strengthen and improve the overall feel of my hair. Fingers crossed it makes a difference.

I also need to choose a new book to put on hold at the library. One of my goals for this year is to read 25 books. I didn’t quite hit that number last year, but I always set my goal at 25 anyway. It just feels like a solid, reasonable number to aim for. As for The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue… have I finished it yet? Nope. Of course not. The story is good, but it feels like it’s dragging, and that’s made it harder to get through. Still, I feel oddly compelled to finish it. It is a good book, it just takes its time, maybe a bit more than I expected.

I’m going to make some tea and read for a bit before I get dinner started. Pollo asada tacos tonight.
