Escape artist

This morning started a little chaotic. While I was washing my face, I noticed Sandy sitting by the window, which felt unusual. When I looked closer, I saw Everest just outside the bedroom window. She had managed to get out again. I quickly called her inside. For now, she’ll have to stay in until we can fix the gate. I’m a bit concerned that she might be finding another way out, so we’ll need to check the entire perimeter and see if there are any other escape routes.

I set up a bed for her in the office, but she’s completely uninterested and insists on lying on the floor instead. At least she seems happy.

Then I discovered that my UPS was off this morning, and when I turned it back on, my computer wouldn’t start. I ended up taking the top of the case off and realized the power button had fallen out. After a bit of searching and some trial-and-error pressing the button, I finally got it to turn on. I’m just glad I was able to get it working again.

And somehow, all of this happened before I even had my coffee. Between chasing down a runaway dog and fixing my computer, the morning got away from me. I still need to take my cough medicine too, probably a good sign that I should slow down for a minute, make some coffee, and reset a bit.

Alexis is going to go for a walk on the path outside our house. She says she is just walking to the end of the street and back. But I’m not sure she realizes what she’s in for with those hills. It takes 40 minutes to walk that path and back. Unless she just goes to the bridge and comes back. Our elevation is pretty high, about 7,000 feet, and even a simple walk out there can turn into a pretty solid workout.

Alex went to check on his grandpa, and I have a feeling Alex is doing a little better than he lets on. Meanwhile, I’m over here still sniffling and coughing like crazy. I just took my second dose of cough syrup, hoping it will calm my coughing a bit.

Time has seemingly run away from me. I didn’t even notice the time. Everyone will be home soon. I didn’t plan today. I will do that now and then read for a bit before everyone comes home.
