The washer works!
The washer repairmen are supposed to be here today, so hopefully they’ll finally figure out what’s actually wrong with the washer. At this point, we know it isn’t the water valves, so at least that possibility has been ruled out. I’m hoping it’s something simple and not another round of guessing and replacing parts. It would be nice to have a working washer again without wondering what surprise it’s going to throw at us next.
Well, it’s been two hours now, and I’m still waiting for the repairmen to arrive. Waiting for service appointments always seems to make time crawl. There’s not much I can do except wait and listen for the dogs to start barking. I’m impatiently being patient, trying not to let the waiting get to me, but I keep catching myself looking at the clock every few minutes. Alexis says they are late. Even though they said 10 to one, I sort of agree with her.
The girls called Grandma today to tell her the exciting news that they’re going to Disney World. They were both so happy to share it with her and spent a little while chatting. After they finished talking, my mom surprised me by asking Lexi to hand me the phone. We don’t usually have conversations, so it caught me off guard.
Our conversation was brief, but it was pleasant. She said hello, told us to have a wonderful time at Disney World, and reminded me that it’s going to be hot and muggy there, which is definitely true this time of year. She also said that if we needed anything, all we had to do was let her know. That was the extent of our conversation. Neither of us has ever been much of a talker, but it was a nice conversation.
The repairmen came out and worked on the washer. Since we live out in the country, our water is pretty hard, so they disconnected the hoses and cleaned them out. They also cleaned the dispenser drawer (I’m not sure what it’s actually called!) and opened up the door to clean the sprayers. There was a lot of calcium buildup.
I’m washing some beach towels now to test it out, and I’m hoping it makes it through the entire cycle.
Update: We’re in the spin cycle now! It made it through the rinse cycle without any errors, so that’s a good sign. I’m waiting until the cycle is completely finished before I declare victory. After these towels, I still have another load of towels and then the kitchen towels to wash.
It works! Happy dance! I’m so glad the washer is working again. I’m already loading in another batch of towels, and after that I’ll tackle the kitchen towels. Now everyone can do their laundry.
I’m still working on laundry. This is my third load for the day. The first load, all the towels, has been washed, dried, folded, and put away. The second load is in the dryer now, and I think Kel is planning to do a load or two tonight as well. The kids can take care of their own laundry tomorrow, so hopefully we’ll have everything caught up by the end of the weekend.
Tomorrow is something I’ve been looking forward to. I finally get to put my computer on my desk and get everything set up. It will be nice to have my workspace organized and functional again.
Tommy’s car needs to be serviced tomorrow, so he decided not to drive it today. Instead, they took the other car to work, which means Tommy won’t be going to band practice tonight.
Tonight is upper body workout day. I’m hoping it goes better than my last upper body workout. The other night was tougher than I expected, and I felt like I was struggling through most of it. Even if tonight is challenging too, I’m determined to show up and do my best.
Today is Kevin’s birthday. I told the girls that today is their dad’s birthday. They both said they already knew. Lexi looked at me and said she wasn’t really sure what she was supposed to do with that information. I understood exactly what she meant. She was so young when he passed away that she doesn’t really have memories of him. Karissa was young too. She’s three years older than Lexi, but she doesn’t really remember him either. It’s a strange kind of sadness, knowing that they know who he was and what he meant to us, yet they never really got the chance to know him for themselves.
For now, I’m going to settle in and read, and finish laundry before everyone comes home.
