ADHD
I just got back from dinner shopping. I had to take Alex to the city for his hockey party. Tom and Alex are eating down there. I picked up dinner for me, Kel, and Krissy(Karissa).
I feel so restless right now. Like I need to be constantly doing something, I will read after I write here and then get started on dinner. I was reading about ADHD today cause I needed a break from coding, and what better way to do that than to dive deeper into my brain? I found that ADHD is an Executive Function Deficit Disorder(EFDD). A behavioral symptom that disrupts a person’s ability to manage their thoughts, emotions, and actions. That almost sounds like an addiction or OCD. I’m confused since executive deficit isn’t a criterion for diagnosing ADHD. A person, I’m sure, can experience ADHD without marked executive function deficits. When doing things effortfully, making decisions, reasoning through something, etc., you are using executive functions. But, I suspect that attention might be a component of executive function. When the ability to regulate attention is lost, it causes a loss of executive function. Problems with executive functioning can result from all kinds of disorders or can arise on their own. Depression and other mood or anxiety disorders can also result in EF difficulties because people can be too overwhelmed or distracted by their emotions to perform EF tasks. Maybe ADHD cannot exist without some EF deficits. But one with an EF deficit can definitely not have ADHD. Oh, I’m confusing myself now. But I definitely don’t think I have an EF deficit despite my ADHD.
Shoot, I need to start dinner!
