Being productive

My health insurance company called yesterday to do some kind of risk assessment, but unfortunately, I didn’t have much time to talk when they called. I explained that I was busy and asked them to call me back today at 10:00. Well, 10:00 came and went, and of course, they never called. I guess they’ll get around to calling me back eventually. I understand that people get busy and things don’t always go according to schedule, but the whole point of scheduling a time to talk was so I could actually be available. You would think that if someone gives you a specific time when they’re free, you’d at least try to stick to it. Oh well, I suppose I’ll just wait and see if they call later.

Tommy has band practice today, so I made sure to prepare both lunch and dinner for him ahead of time. That way, he won’t have to worry about stopping somewhere or spending money buying dinner while he’s out. I’m not entirely sure what we’re going to have for dinner at home, though. I’m guessing it will probably be a fend-for-yourself kind of evening. That’s usually how things work out when he has band practice. Everyone just finds something to eat, and we figure it out as we go.

As for me, I’m not sure what to talk about today. I’ve spent most of the day looking for a job, which is a strange thing to say because, technically, I’ve been sitting on my butt for hours. I’ve been scrolling through job listings, reading descriptions, deciding which positions might be worth applying for, and submitting applications here and there. It’s one of those activities that takes up a surprising amount of time without giving you much to physically show for it.

I know that looking for a job is productive, and I am making an effort to find something, but it doesn’t always feel that way. There’s no finished project sitting in front of me, no immediate result, and no real sense of accomplishment when I close another job listing or submit another application. It’s mostly just clicking, reading, filling out information, and hoping that something eventually comes from it. Then you move on to the next listing and start the whole process over again.

I suppose that’s one of the frustrating things about job hunting. You can spend an entire day working toward something without knowing whether any of that effort will actually lead anywhere. You send out applications, cross your fingers, and wait. Sometimes you wonder if anyone will even look at them. But I keep reminding myself that doing something is better than doing nothing, and every application is at least another possibility.

So that’s pretty much my day. Nothing particularly exciting has happened, just a few minor annoyances and spending hours trying to find a job. Not exactly an eventful day, but I guess not every day has to be. Sometimes life is just a collection of little responsibilities, waiting for phone calls that never come, figuring out dinner, and trying to make progress even when it doesn’t feel like you’re getting anywhere.

It just doesn’t make for a very exciting journal entry. Lol! I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to do tonight. I don’t currently have a book that I’m in the middle of reading. Oh! I should start reading Dungeon Crawler Carl. Maybe that’s what I’ll settle in and do tonight. It sounds like a good way to spend a quiet evening. Of course, Alex is here, so it’s not going to be that quiet. Hehe.

I’ve also started working on the layout for a media journal in one of my empty journals, and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun! I’m keeping it pretty low-key and simple because I don’t want it to turn into another project that feels like work. I really just want a place to keep track of the books I read, the shows and movies I watch, and the music and podcasts I listen to. Well, I don’t exactly listen to podcasts. Maybe I should try and find one. A little record of what I’ve been enjoying, discovering, and spending my time with. Nothing too elaborate or complicated. Just a fun way to document my media consumption and look back on it later. I’m looking forward to seeing how it comes together.

I’m going to make some hot tea and read for a little bit. I called the Sinus Institute about my ears. The doctor sent a referral in for me. I was going to call tomorrow cause I didn’t feel like calling today. But Tommy said to call, so I did. It wasn’t too bad calling. I just don’t like using the phone. I have an appointment next month.
