The weekend
I had a busy weekend, but I’m having trouble putting it all into words. What did I do this weekend?
Stuff.
No, really. I did a lot, but when I try to think about everything that happened, it all kind of runs together. So let’s see if I can piece it together.
Saturday
Saturday started with Tommy having a concert. We had a lot going on that day, and, as usual, getting out of the house turned into more of an adventure than it needed to be.
We had the car packed with pretty much everything we thought we would need: Tommy’s hockey stuff, our backpacks, and food that we were bringing over to a friend’s house after the concert. We had our backpacks because we were spending the night there.
We were smart enough to leave the house an hour and a half before the concert, but I didn’t think it would be because we would have to keep coming back to the house. What we didn’t know was that we were going to have to turn around and go back home three times before we finally made it onto the freeway.
The first time, Tommy realized he had forgotten something he needed for work. He had to go into work on Sunday because there was something he needed to fix, so apparently that was important enough that we couldn’t just leave it behind.
We got back home, grabbed the forgotten item, and headed out again.
Then, somewhere along the way, we realized we had forgotten the birthday card and gift card for our friend.
Back home again.
At this point, you would think we had everything. Nope.
Then I realized Tommy didn’t have his hockey sticks for hockey on Sunday.
So we went back home again.
At least we had left early.
Eventually, we had everything we needed… or at least everything we could remember needing… and finally got onto the freeway. At that point, I was just hoping we could make it to the concert without discovering anything else we had forgotten.
Thankfully, we did.
The concert was nice. I really liked the songs they played, and I thought everyone played very well, including Tommy. It was nice getting to sit there and listen to him play. Even with all the chaos it took to get there, it was worth it.
Kel had a harder time with some of the songs, though. A few of them had been her dad’s favorite songs, and hearing them brought up a lot of emotions for her. She started crying during a few of them. It was hard to see her going through that, but I could understand why the music would hit her so strongly. Sometimes a song can bring back a person or a memory so quickly that you aren’t really prepared for it.
After the concert, we made our way to Target because we needed to buy some beach towels. Apparently, Chris had thrown away our beach towels because he thought they were old. They were good Costco towels too! So now we had to buy new towels because apparently our perfectly good Costco towels had been declared too old and sent to their final resting place.
Once we had our new towels, we headed over to our friend’s house. We got there around 4:00, and there were already several people there.
Everyone was nice, but I wasn’t feeling particularly social. Ok, I never feel particularly social. I talked a little bit, though, especially after Tommy reminded me that I should try to be a little more social. I know he’s right about that sometimes. It can be easy for me to sit quietly and let everyone else do the talking, especially when there are a lot of people around.
They were already playing a board game when we arrived, so we sat down, ate some food, and watched them play for a while.
Eventually, we played some games ourselves. Unfortunately, I don’t remember everything we played that night. Apparently my brain decided some of that information wasn’t important enough to save.
After everyone else had left, Tommy, Kel, our friends, and I sat in the hot tub for a little while. It was nice to relax after such a busy day. Eventually, we got ready for bed and settled in for the night.
Sunday
Tommy and I woke up around 6:00 Sunday morning because Tommy had to go into work for a few hours to fix something.
He told me to go back to sleep, so I did. I slept for a few more hours before finally getting up, getting dressed, and getting ready for the day. Everyone else was still asleep, so I took my medicine and played on my phone for a while.
I think Tommy got back to our friend’s house sometime around 10:00 or 11:00. I honestly don’t remember exactly when. By then, everyone was awake and had breakfast.
Then we got back to playing board games. I actually remember some of the games from Sunday. We played Fountains and a card game called Detective Club. We also played Just One. I’m pretty sure we played Heat too, although now that I think about it, we may have played that one on Saturday.
Just One was fun. I especially like coming up with the clues. I think I actually prefer giving the clues rather than being the person who has to guess the word from everyone else’s clues. There’s something fun about trying to come up with a clue that will help someone figure out the answer without making it too obvious or accidentally giving them the wrong idea.
Eventually, we had pizza for dinner. Then Tommy, Kel, and I left for Tommy’s hockey game. The game was good. Tommy played very well, which was nice to see. After the game, we finally came home.
By that point, I was exhausted. We got our CPAPs ready for the night, I made Tommy’s lunch for work, and then I headed off to bed.
Geez, I was so grouchy and tired when I got home. I really hope that wasn’t the medication.
I’m still keeping track of these little incidents and how I’m feeling so I can tell my doctor about them. I want to have a record instead of trying to remember everything later. Hopefully, it will help figure out whether the medication is affecting my mood or energy or if I was simply exhausted from having such a busy weekend.
Monday
Today I’m feeling pretty good.
I even walked down to the mailbox to get the mail, which felt like a small accomplishment. It wasn’t anything huge, but I was up and moving around, and I felt okay doing it. I have a lot of energy today and I wanted to do something.
I wasn’t really feeling hungry today, though. I ended up making myself get something to eat around 1:00. The medicine really does seem to take away my appetite. I suppose that could be considered a good thing if you’re trying to lose weight, which I am, but I still need to remember that I have to eat. Not being hungry doesn’t mean my body doesn’t need food.
I also feel a little guilty when we go over to our friends’ house because we tend to eat a lot more than we probably should. There always seems to be food around, and it’s easy to keep eating when everyone else is eating, and you’re having a good time. Then afterward, you realize just how much you ate and start feeling guilty about it.
I’m trying not to be too hard on myself about that, though. One weekend of eating more than usual isn’t going to undo everything. I just need to get back to making better choices and paying attention to what my body actually needs.
Karissa called my mom today, and I talked to my mom for a few minutes too. Phone calls with my mom are never very long. But that’s okay. She’s doing well, and she asked how everyone was doing here. It was nice to hear from her, even if it was only for a few minutes. Sometimes a short phone call is enough.
I also studied today. I mostly did reading because I couldn’t get the quizzes to work. I’ll try the quizzes again later. I don’t want to let a technical problem keep me from studying, though, so I worked with what I could.
I wrote down the common network protocols and their port numbers because I really want to get those memorized. I also worked on the OSI model.
So that was my weekend.
Right now I’m going to read for a bit and maybe make some tea.
