I’m baking bread again—started it around 10, and it should be ready by 3. I need it to be done by then anyway, since I have a doctor’s appointment at 4:40. Last night, the dome piece from my hearing aid got stuck in my ear when I took it out. It usually only happens if the dome is cracked, and I hadn’t noticed it was broken before putting it in. Now, a doctor must remove it. Sigh. The last time it happened, I went to the Costco Hearing Aid center, and they removed the dome from my ear. But I don’t really want to go down to the city when I can go to a doctor up here.
For dinner, I’m making spaghetti with the fresh bread. I’ll start the sauce at 2 so it can simmer before I leave for the appointment. Between all this, I’m squeezing in some coding. Quite the eventful day—I hope I don’t overwhelm myself.
The bread takes a lot of proofing—three hours, to be exact. It’s currently on its second hour. After that, I’ll shape the dough and let it rise for another hour before baking. Hopefully, it turns out better than the other night. I think part of the problem last time was that I skipped a step. The recipe actually called for an additional rise after the first hour, but I went straight to the third hour before baking. Not sure if this explanation is making sense, haha.
Since I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon, I need the truck. Kel works just three minutes away, so she came home, picked me up, and I drove the truck back from her work. I felt so short in that thing! Well, I am short, but the truck definitely didn’t help—I could barely see over the steering wheel. On the way back, I stopped at the mailbox to grab the mail, then came home and prepped the bread dough for another hour of proofing.
The bread is done—it looks and smells good. I’m letting it cool while the spaghetti sauce simmers on the stove. I’m going to squeeze in a bit more coding before I have to leave for my doctor’s appointment.
The good news is the plastic dome is finally out of my ear. It never really hurt, but I could definitely feel it. My ear feels much better now. I swapped it out for a new dome, and everything’s fine. I’ve also put the water on to boil so we can make the pasta soon.
This morning I had to make coffee with the French press because our Keurig stopped working. All the troubleshooting I tried yesterday didn’t help—it just won’t turn on. I thought I’d use Lexi’s old dorm Keurig instead, but when I tried it this morning, that one wouldn’t work either. Crazy that both machines quit on us. I offered to make Tommy coffee with the French press, but he turned it down—probably because I open up a K-cup and use the grounds that way. It’s not fancy, but it works!
